by Delly Bagu – EM TV, Port Moresby

Jamaican artist Sean Paul arrived in Papua New Guinea for the first time yesterday.

He will be performing live at the Lamana Gold Club in Port Moresby tonight and tomorrow night for an energetic and anticipating Port Moresby crowd. The reggae/dancehall sensation said he is happy to be in PNG and is looking forward to experiencing the culture.

The singer-songwriter went straight to a media conference when he arrived yesterday. Born Sean Paul Henriques, he is of Portuguese, Chinese, and Jamaican descent and grew up comfortably in St Andrew, Jamaica.

He began scoring hit singles in Jamaica in 1996 and steadily attracted international attention. Afterwards, he eventually broke into the pop mainstream in 2002 with Dutty Rock. He said his music is influenced by many different artists in his own genre. He is influenced by new styles and he puts his own twist on it, which makes him a unique artist.

He said he decided to use his real name with his music, rather than choosing a bigger-than-life name.

Sean Paul will be performing live tonight and on Saturday night at 10pm at the Lamana Gold Club in Port Moresby. The artist assured that it would be two nights of energy.
