By Vicky Baunke

The Take Back Goroka Town program, initiated by the Goroka Development Authority under Goroka MP Aiye Tambua, in partnership with the police and Goroka Urban Local Level Government, recently introduced three new vehicles to support law and order in Goroka town.

The vehicle keys were handed over to the GULLG Manager Harold Abori and Eastern Highlands Provincial Police Commander Chief Superintendent John Kale.

Two Hyundai vehicles were allocated to the Town Authority, while a Toyota Hilux was designated for the Community Policing and Reserve section.

MP Tambua highlighted that Goroka’s reputation as a safe and peaceful town had attracted investors, visitors, and businesses.

He expressed a vision to transform Goroka into a model town for the country and stressed the need for town expansion and strengthened law and order to support the town’s upgrade to city status.

MP Tambua also urged local citizens, especially youths, to take ownership of their town and collaborate on long-term development goals.

He emphasized boosting the partnership between GULLG and the police for effective enforcement of town regulations, noting that while police logistics remain a national government responsibility, collaborative efforts are essential.

Additionally, MP Tambua announced a monthly budget of K20,000 for police reservists through the DDA’s annual budget.

GULLG Manager Abori described the partnership as a historic achievement after 30 years of service, promising vehicle maintenance under GULLG responsibility.

Chief Superintendent Kale thanked MP Tambua for ongoing support and reminded citizens of their responsibility to uphold law and order. He assured full police backing to enforce town bylaws and maintain safety in Goroka.
