PNG CIVIL REGISTRATION SIGNS AGREEMENT WITH HIGHLANDS REGION HEALTH AUTHORITY

The Papua New Guinea Civil and Identity Registry are currently in the Highlands to sign a Subsidiary Memorandum of Understanding with all Provincial Health Authorities in the region.

The signing of the Subsidiary Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) was scheduled for July 7 -10, 2025.

The MoUs established under the overarching Head Agreement was signed between the National Department of Health (NDoH) and Papua New Guinea Civil and Identity Registry (PNGCIR). It is aimed at supporting the integration of civil registration services particularly birth and death registration within the provincial health system.

The model has already been implemented at Port Moresby General Hospital and Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae, where office space was allocated within the hospital premises to allow PNGCIR teams to operate on-site.

PNGCIR indicated that a similar arrangement is being pursued with the Highlands PHAs to extend civil registration coverage to all provincial hospitals in the region, and Kudjip Nazarene hospital was the first to sign the memorandum.

Chief Executive officer for Kudjip Nazarene Hospital, Mr. Joseph Sika when welcoming the NID team from Port Moresby, described how important it is to have the service in the hospital facility.

He said accurate data and statistics is a must as it corresponds well to easing the work of the hospital.
