Kubalia Tertiary Students Union (KTSU) is made up of Kubalia students from Yangoru Saussia District in East Sepik province attending tertiary institutions around the country, advocate and carry out educational awareness back in the district every year starting in 2018.
The union members each year visited primary, high school and secondary schools in the Numbo and Sausso Local Level Government, advocating and motivating students to perform academically well in order to enter into tertiary institutions.
This year the union completed the weeklong awareness campaign last week and were satisfied upon receiving positive feedback from schools and local communities.
A team of KTSU members were sent to carry out school awareness program in the Middle Sepik Junior High school in the Angoram LLG of Angoram District last Wednesday, noticed that the school is further south of Yangoru Saussia district and is in need of government services as the school attained its high school status recently.
Given the remoteness and the deteriorating road condition, the KTSU team still managed to reach the school to carry out their awareness. For the first time the school received team KTSU, comprising of students from the Universities who spoke about education, law and order and SME among others.
Few parents and students listened attentively to the university students. Following the presentation, students were given time to ask questions on the topics presented.
One of the students Miss Georgina Lokundumi asked if the university students could be their mouth piece to inform responsible authorities for road service and a telecommunications tower to be established.
“Road service and communication is the only means for us to reach out to the outside world,” Miss Lokundumi said.
She said, everything that were mentioned regarding health, law and order and other areas will all be referred back to those two essential services.
Gregory Humbi, a student leader said “The concerns raised will be put through a formal report to responsible authorities for deliberations.”
He urged the students not to take present situation as a hindrance to unveil their potential to success.
The KTSU team also donated three sanitation buckets and illustrated the methods to filter dirty water into purified clean water that can be used for drinking and cooking as well.
