While most people are busy getting ready to celebrate and welcome the New Year, NCD’s traffic police are busy conducting Traffic operations within the city limits.

With the New Year just around the corner, the city roads have been busy with cars travelling to and from the city and the highways.

While the holiday makers and city residents are getting ready to celebrate and welcome the New Year, NCD’s traffic police have been busy conducting the second phase of their traffic operations to ensure a smooth and trouble free traffic within the city limits.

Chief Sergeant Gapi Nanu, the officer in charge of traffic operations told EMTV News that their main aim for the New Year operations is to monitor and maintain the traffic.

According to Chief Sergeant Nanu, the traffic police have about 80 to 90 men assigned for traffic operations during this festive season.

Sergeant Nanu said the most common traffic rule that motorists breach is driving vehicles that are unregistered.

During the festive season, most drivers tend to drink and drive, however, Sergeant Nanu said, so far in their operations, there were not many cases of drunk driving.

He said he is happy that the general public are abiding by the traffic rules.

Phase two of their operations that started today (29 December, 2018) will end on the 2nd of January.

Officer in charge of the Traffic Operations at 4mile, Chief Sergeant Gapi Nanu says most of the vehicles they stopped and checked were the unregistered ones.
