Defence Force Members set to own homes

‘Papua New Guinea Defence Force Housing Scheme is no longer a dream but a reality for its serving members who want to own a house,’ says PNGDF Commander Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo.

Brigadier Toropo made this statement when he officially put cement into his new house he got from the Defence Housing Scheme at Taurama Valley in Port Moresby this week.

Being one of the first thirty home buyers in the force, Brigadier General Gilbert Toropo said over the last forty years, the force has tried to develop its own housing scheme but was unsuccessful.

“Housing has been one of the key problems, many of our ex-service men faces after leaving the force. This will never be face again for the current serving members. I want to lead by good example and show my service men and women to start getting houses from the Defence Housing Scheme,” said Brigadier Toropo.

Brigadier Toropo thanked Comrade Trustees Savings Limited and all the contractors to finally make things happened and are looking forward in partnering with them.

Defence Housing Scheme lead Project Officer, Colonel Paul Mai said that the project is now in the first phase of building 152 houses. First thirsty houses are now under construction and by June this year, those first 30 home owners will receive their keys for their new homes.

The occasion was proudly witnessed by CTSL Chief Executive Officer Mr John Nauna, Lae Area Commandant Colonel Carl Wrakonei, Contractors and soldiers from Taurama Barracks.
