The parties involved in this matter include Francis Baundo as the plaintiff NICTA CEO Charles Puhana, Communications Minister, Sam Basil and the State as the Respondents.
This case was registered at the National Court in Port Moresby in December 2017, days before the start of the Deactivation Process.
The Plaintiff, Baundo is asking the National Court to relax the registration process, on grounds that most mobile phone users are in the rural areas and do not have valid ID Cards to register their SIM Cards.
Under the New NICTA Act of 2016, all Telecommunications Companies were asked to register their customers before the 31st of December, 2017.
Since August 2016, the three mobile phone companies have started registering their customers through their SIM Cards.
However, most mobile phone users did not register until the remaining days of 2017
The case now before the National Court will return for Direction Hearing on January 17.
Meanwhile, SIM card de-registration is on the 23rd of January.
