Seized Ballot Boxes Returned

The 14 ballot boxes locked at the Tinputz Police Station in North Bougainville have been released and is ready for counting.

Bougainville Acting Election Manager, Desmond Timyaso has also confirmed safely receiving these ballot boxes which remain untampered.

The ballot boxes will be included in the counting.

This is because ballot boxes were not tampered and locked safely in the Tinputz police station.

The incident occurred after service providers in Suir of North Bougainville protested over unpaid dues for the 2012 National Elections and the 2015 ABG Elections, totalling to K73,000.

Service providers have been assured and agreed for the smooth polls and counting to continue and will wait on the PNG Electoral Commission’s decision.

Meanwhile counting in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville is scheduled on Monday next week.

This is because counting in Tinputz will be completed this coming Saturday July 8.

Planning for the Counting has also started.
