People from Ahi Local Level Government in Lae, Morobe Province are encouraged to embrace change, strive to be self-reliant, and become entrepreneurs.
Ahi President Bingmalu Ahie made this statement during a recent ground-breaking ceremony for the Malahang Technical Secondary School’s new Tourism and Hospitality Center.
The new Tourism and Hospitality Center will be a K15 million investment for the school funded by the Australian Government.
Bingmalu thanked the Australian Government and the people of Australia for funding the enhancement project through the PNG and Australia Partnership Program.
He said the investment is more than an improvement to the infrastructure of Malahang Technical Secondary School.”It’s an investment in the future of our children and the development of our communities here in Ahi and Lae,” said Bingmalu.
He said Lae is the industrial and commercial hub of Papua New Guinea. With many industries operating within the city, young people equipping themselves with necessary technical skills and knowledge will contribute meaningfully to the development of Lae and this country.
“We must train our generations to be self-reliant, to create employment, and be entrepreneurs for this country,” he said.
Bingmalu said the development must create opportunities for its people as indigenous people of the land.
“With the development, it’s a challenge for us to show ourselves and not be spectators in our own land,” Bingmalu said.
Bingmalu reaffirmed the local people’s commitment to working with the government, development partners, and the school administration to support education to develop skills for the young people and generations to come.
