The PNG Lewas are currently up against Samoa, in their last battle to secure a spot in the ICC T/20 Women’s Cricket World Cup.
After three wins in four games, the Lewas are once again facing 2015 Pacific Games Gold Medalist Samoa, and this time, it is a do-or-die moment for the PNG ladies to take out the East Asia Pacific title once again.
The match currently played in Japan will decide whether the Lewas maintain their top spot in the region or lose it to Samoa.
They started off their campaign well defeating Vanuatu by 9 wickets and later losing to Samoa by 18 runs.
It was a great bounce back for them when they took out Japan in a 78 run victory on Sunday.
In the 4th round, the Lewas sent Vanuatu packing with a 5 wicket win.
Now facing a very determined Samoan side, the Lewas are aware of the importance of making this game rule in their favour.
Winning the decider again would mean an entry to the World Cup once more, and another chance to better their performance from last year in Colombo.
A calculating Samoan side also acknowledged how strong the PNG team is considering they have been at the top for over two years now.
With months of work put into training to get them there, Coach Rodney Maha may have to look at their next preparation to get them to the World Cup, as the decider sums up a few hours from now.
As defending champions, the PNG side has been the strongest in the last two years, taking out the East Asia Pacific title twice and qualifying for the world cup.
Now vying one more time for entry, the current decider is a match they have to win.
