Farming PNG Premiere on EMTV | April 6, 2017

For centuries, Papua New Guineans have lived off the land; farming and cultivating our rich soil, which in turn produces some of the earth’s most unique fruit and vegetables.

To this day, agriculture continues to play an integral role in our society.

80 percent of Papua New Guineans live in rural areas, and to this demography, agriculture isn’t merely a topic for discussion but their source of livelihood.

The first season of Farming PNG, which debuted on EMTV on April 6, tells the stories of the people of Mount Hagen, Goroka, Lae, Kimbe and Rabaul, rediscovering the century’s long relationship between them and their land.

The series is produced by EMTEK Multimedia and supported by Farmset.

Over the years, commercial farming has gradually gained popularity around the country, with markets slowly opening up; however there is room for substantial improvement.

Recently, the discovery of extractive resources in the country has pulled the governments focus away from the agriculture sector, leaving it largely destitute.

According to Director, Marco Venditti, the series aims to inspire viewers on the potential of a sector which could be transformational for the national economy vis-à-vis the future.
