UN Continues UN4U Program

The United Nations believe everyone needs to understand the country’s Sustainable Development Goals, and how they can be achieved over a 15-year target.

Representatives from the United Nations in the country continue to advocate about the Sustainable Development Goals in schools around Port Moresby to expose the global perspectives.

Students from; Paradise Private Secondary School, Port Moresby International School, Hohola Demonstration School, Ted Diro Primary School, St Francis Community School, and St Theresa Primary School, have participated in interactive sessions about the Goals in November and December.

“Contributing to the UN4U programme, meeting with students, and discussing important global and national issues with them is always inspirational,” said UN Country Coordinator, Roy Trivedy.

“While the young people do learn about our work, UN representatives also learn from the students and their teachers,

“The Sustainable Development Goals aim to leave no one behind, so each of us has a role to play, including students and youth. Education is a powerful tool to build and transform a country through the power of knowledge.”

Trivedy says the program will continue to 2017 to gauge views and clarity over PNG’s Development Goals.

The program, known as UN4U has been running for years with over 1000 students, taking part in discussions. It focused on the 17 SDGs of the government.
