YourVote2017 – EP7 | Impact of Social Media on Election

There were more controversies in the headlines as voting continued, from delays in voting, to allegations of extra ballot papers being found.

A lot of these stories were shared not first by mainstream media – like newspapers and radio – but via social media. With the rapidly growing popularity of social media here in PNG in recent years, especially Facebook, this year’s election has been like no other before it.

In YourVote2017, we look at what impacts it had on the campaign period, and ask the question, has it made this election more transparent, or has it helped feed rumours and fake news?
