Volleyball Icon’s Funeral Service – Wednesday

Mr Paliau died last Thursday morning in Lae while on duty travel, and was transported back to Port Moresby on Saturday 27 September, 2014.

Hi death has shaken the sporting fraternity, with condolence messages and tributes pouring in from all corners of the country and abroad; with all paying their due respect for the softly spoken man from Baluan Island in Manus.

Late John Paliau leaves behind a lasting legacy that he will be remembered for in volleyball and sports as a whole. His vast contributions to the code and in developing the sport for generations to come made him a highly respected sporting icon in PNG and the region.

The late Paliau, was an ambassador for sports in the country and his death is a great loss not only to his family and the people of Manus, but also to sports in PNG. 

The the volleyball icon will be flown to Manus on Thursday where he will be laid to rest at his beloved Baluan Island village.
