Vice-Chancellor of the University of Natural Resources and Environment, Dr. Pongie Kichawen has been suspended by the university council following a series of allegations leveled against him.

In a circular sent to the staff of the University, Chancellor, Professor Sumbuk stated the allegations against Dr. Kichawen are serious in nature both administratively and legally.

Professor Sumbuk stated that Dr. Kichawen has been given 14 days to respond to the allegations.

Meanwhile, Pro. Vice-Chancellor Academic, Dr. Issac Pue has been appointed as acting Vice-Chancellor following the council’s decision.

Dr. Kichawen was appointed as Vice-Chancellor in 2019 to replace Professor John Warren, who had his contract terminated.

Dr. Kichawen’s suspension comes following ongoing tussles within the university’s administration since 2015.

The university has also been a hive of student protests demanding changes to the vice – chancellor’s post over allegations of maladministration.

Since 2015, at least three different people have been appointed to the Vice Chancellor’s post but later had their contracts terminated or were forced to resign.
