Authorities in West New Britain are investigating unconfirmed reports of deaths linked to the armed robbery in Kimbe, as a manhunt for five remaining suspects continues.
Police maintain a heavy presence across the town following the hold-up at Welcome Supermarket, an incident that broke a year-long calm in major armed robberies in the area.
Provincial Police Commander, Inspector Fred Kaiwa, moved to clarify rumors, confirming that while most of the wanted individuals are believed to be wounded and hiding in surrounding settlements, none have escaped the province.
“Intelligence and CID units are now working to verify unconfirmed reports of deaths related to the incident,” Inspector Kaiwa said.
He warned that delays in surrendering could put the suspects’ lives at risk due to untreated injuries, as police continue to maintain pressure on their hideouts.
The PPC also addressed social media speculation that the suspects had fled to New Ireland, suggesting those reports may have been an attempt to divert police attention from ongoing operations in West New Britain.
Case Status:
· 4 suspects arrested
· 1 admitted to hospital
· 5 still at large
· Unconfirmed deaths under investigation
Inspector Kaiwa urged the public to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid spreading unconfirmed rumors that could hinder police operations.
