ST. MONFORT KIUNGA TEACHERS’ COLLEGE SWEARING IN GOVERNING COUNCIL TO GUIDE AND SUPPORT INSTITUTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The newly established St Monfort Kiunga Teacher’s College in North Fly District of Western Province, is now into its full swing of training students to become primary teachers in near future.

This college has sworn in its governing council members to ensure ongoing institutional development.

On March 16th, 2026, the college held its oath swearing in ceremony at the school campus in Kiunga.

College Principal Brother Lucianus Lakra says this will guide and support the ongoing development of the teacher’s college in Kiunga.

“In higher learning level, it is called governing council so every decision and programs in this institution is made by governing council members for the development of the college. Every member plays an important role which contributes to ongoing teaching and learning of this teacher’s college.” said Brother Lucianus Lakra.

Br Lakra said the occasion marks a significant step in strengthening the governance and leadership of St Monfort Kiunga Teacher’s College as governing council takes on their responsibilities to guide and support the growth and development of institution in education service within Western Province and Papua New Guinea.

He said as the college continues to train and equip students to become teachers, people in Western province particularly Kiunga and nearby settlements have been urged to take ownership of such higher learning institution staged at their door step.

Br Lakra said currently, 44 students in Kiunga are undergoing training in primary teacher education which began this month enabling them for qualified teachers in near future. Western Province now has three teachers’ colleges: the Gaulim Teachers College Daru Campus in South Fly District, Balimo Teachers College in Delta Fly District and the St Monfort Kiunga Teachers College in North Fly District. These colleges will train more teachers and ensure every child has access to education, in line with the national vision of leaving no child behind.
