Moresby South MP, Justin Tkatchenko says there is no accuse for the ANGAU Cancer Facility to not have an oncologist.
It comes after a mother of eight from his electorate, Winnie Solien passed away after going to Lae for cancer treatment at ANGAU.
He has called on the Health department to recruit a cancer specialist and improve all other problems facing the only referral centre in the country.
“There should be no excuse for the Secretary of Health to find specialists or doctors that can perform at the highest level,” says Tkatchenko.
The Cancer Facility’s problems have received attention from the highest level.
The ANGAU Cancer Facility is the only one in the country, and patients from Port Moresby are referred to Lae for treatment.
Winnie Solien, a mother of eight, lived in Gabutu, she passed away last Wednesday.
The Sports Minister says she is one of many that have died.
The Moresby South MP has also suggested that the Health department should look into bringing cancer specialists from Australia.
