Governors in the Southern Region have pledged their support and plan to collaborate and improve provincial economies through aligned policies.
Gulf Governor Chris Haiveta said the Southern Region Communique is the first with emphasis to overhaul the role of Provincial Governments and improve relationships between the 5 provinces.
“This is the first meet and we hope better things will be achieved for the 5 provinces,” said Governor Haiveta.
Among the pressing issues discussed in Alotau, the Governor want a more aligned and workable structure in their Provincial Governments.
They believe better aligned policies will be introduced especially areas of public service, Tax compliance, land boundaries and road networking.
The 5 Governors also request a MOU to be established between State agencies to improve and monitor the registration of businesses in the region.
Northern Governor Gary Juffa said there is no policy guiding the 5 provinces over ownership of resources and how best people can benefit.
The Southern Region Governors Conference was held in Alotau and ended yesterday.
