Solwara 1 Project Awareness Underway for New Ireland West Coast Villages

Awareness for the Solwara 1 Project is continuing for Communities on the West Coast of New Ireland.

Developer Nautilus Mineral says consultation has progressed despite criticism of the environmental effects of the project.

According to the developer, awareness has reached over 30 thousand people. The awareness is aimed to bring confidence to the local communities on the workflow of the seabed mining project.

Nautlilus Minerals, along with other State agencies, including Provincial and District officials, visited the West Coast of Namatanai recently.

Locals are new to the seabed mining, which will be the first in the country. However, some have confidence of reaping its benefits.

According to CEPA officials, Developer Nautilus Minerals has satisfied most the requirements of the Environment Act, despite stiff opposition from some communities within the area.

For many, the Solwara 1 Project will be the first major impact project near their shores.

Others still have doubts, while others believe the project will help a lot in services they have not seen, in the past 15 years.

The seabed mining project is set to come into operation two years from now.
