Sios Social Media Case Adjourned

Janet Sios, the businesswoman charged for Improper use of ICT services, had her case adjourned to March 7th.

The adjournment came after police prosecution failed to bring her documents to court recently.

The case went before Waigani District Court magistrate, Mekeo Gauli.

The accused, 52-year-old Janet Sios, from New Ireland Province appeared with her lawyer before the Waigani Committal Court.

For the appearance, her lawyer was required to respond to the submissions from the police prosecution.

However, the police prosecutor did not provide the submissions, therefore asked the court to adjourn the case for another two weeks.

Sios was charged with one count of Improver Use of ICT Services under the new NICTA Act in 2016.

Police alleged that Sios used social media and wrote offensive words which insulted another woman.

She was arrested in October 2016 and has been attending her case since.

The case will be returning to court on March 7, for her lawyer to respond to the police prosecution. Her bail was also extended.
