Port Moresby Vipers receive NCDC support

By Elijah Lavett – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

THE Port Moresby Vipers have received much-needed backing from the National Capital District Commission (NCDC), with a backing of K220,000 toward their affiliation fee for the 2019 Intercity Cup competition. The Port Moresby Vipers have been consistent in the competition, and are probably one of the competition’s oldest teams.

The PNG National Rugby League competition is set to kick off in two weeks time, and many teams have been preparing for the season by staging trial matches in efforts to select their best.

PNGNRLC Competition Manager, Stanley Hondina, who was present to receive the cheque, says the competition has evolved and improved over the years through the support of organizations like NCDC.

“We have other franchises, who strong companies have been standing behind in supporting the teams. For the case of vipers, NCDC, Governor Parkop and the team, thank you very much for supporting and getting behind this team.

“Your support and help towards the game to get it to this level has been appreciated, and we commend you for that, and we look forward to working more closely with you, to support and see the game going forward,” Hondina said.

NCD Governor, Powes Parkop, was very supportive in his address to the team, he said he is positive the Port Moresby Vipers team can make the finals this year.

“Go out there, do your best. Lift! Have your own pathway, and try to be a champion yourself, and then try to be a champion as a team. Go out there and aim to win. Not to be second best. But aim to win. Because your victory will be our victory. Your victory will inspire everyone. And your victory will be a city victory and will be a Papua New Guinea victory too because there is no other city like us, that is going to inspire our people,” Governor Parkop told the team.
