Opposition leader, Don Polye, says modernisation must not amend customary values.
Mr Polye said the respect for traditional values has lost its path in Papua New Guinean communities.
The Opposition leader said community leaders must embrace traditional values and remind their people. The Opposition leader says there is a total breakdown in keeping traditional values.
He says, before Christianity reached PNG shores, respect and other values existed.
“We had these valued of life in our blood system”, said Polye.
“Our ancestors lived a happy life, embracing values with more respect to life”, he added.
Applauding modern growth and the development path PNG is on, Polye wants values of life to be embraced.
He says, the high crime rate and social issues affecting communities can be addressed if leaders are doing the right thing.
Polye said it is time people understand the concept of development and be responsible for their actions.
He says change can be achieved if traditional leadership rules.
