Over the weekend, two Morobean groups from the Pigua and Bumatu, came together to end an 8-year war.
Women folk told EMTV Lae of how the violence had far-reaching effects for them and their families.
They say they can now return to a life less fraught with fear, and to start rebuilding their families from the ashes of violence.
