PNG LNG Trains Shut Down

Following the 7.5 magnitude earthquake in the Highlands, ExxonMobil PNG has safely shut down Two LNG trains at its PNG LNG Plant outside of Port Moresby.

In their latest update, EMPNG said this followed yesterday’s shutdown of the Hides Gas Conditioning Plant, and Hides Well Pads in Hela Province. The company is also continuing the evacuation of non-essential staff from Hides.

It has dispatched specialist engineers to Hides to assist with damage and repair assessments.

Communication remains a significant challenge.

According to EMPNG Managing Director, Andrew Barry, ExxonMobil PNG working to re-establish communication with nearby communities to understand the full extent of damage to communities around its project areas.

They are working with the National Disaster Centre, aid agencies and our community partners to help ensure any information is shared and relief plans are a coordinated effort.
