PNG Electoral Commission to trial out Tablet Technology

PNG Electoral Commission will be trialing out the use of tablets or tablet technology to improve the electoral roll for 2017.

In a statement, Electoral Commissioner, Andrew Trawen said Barakau village, outside Port Moresby was selected to trial out the project.

This will enable officers to check enrolment of voters, number of deceased voters and update the movement of eligible voters in preparation for 2017 General Elections.

These were some of the issues discussed when a team from the PNG Electoral Commission’s Election Operations Branch met with Southern Highlands Provincial Election Steering Committee in Mendi recently.

The PNGEC’s objectives is to update the existing 2012 Electoral Roll that will in the long run improve its intergrity by way of engaging directly with electors as well as employing different strategies like the use of newly gazetted enrolment form, where all data will be updated and have photos attached.

The enrolment agents will trial out the tablets at Barakau village in June this year.
