PNG Cancer Foundation To Conduct Free Mouth Screening

The PNG Cancer Foundation will conduct free mouth screening and mouth cancer awareness tomorrow at Waterfront Foodworld in Port Moresby, from 9am to 2pm.

The program is supported by Colgate, Palmolive, Pacific International Hospital and the National Department of Health with the expertise of Dr. Rose Andrew.

The program will consist of free mouth cancer screening conducted by dentists from Colgate and Pacific International Hospital; people will have a choice to go to either booth to get their mouths checked.

Colgate with have their referrals sent to Port Moresby General Hospital if any abnormalities are confirmed and PIH will have their referrals sent to PIH.

This initiative is supported by Lipton Tea, Port Moresby General Hospital, Colgate, PIH, Nau FM, Yumi FM, Legend FM and Boroko Food World in Waterfront.

Over 12% of cancer admissions in PNG are mouth cancer. Cancer testing is predominantly ignored by people due to ignorance or misunderstanding of the disease.

The earlier testing and diagnosis of cancer, whether it is of the mouth, cervical, testicular or breast, can help an individual realize it early and seek treatment.
