It has been 16 days since news of the two boats that went missing between Madang and Manus were first reported.

Manus Provincial Police Commander, Chief Inspector David Yapu said the two boats left Madang on December 28th last year, but never made it to Manus.

Families of the passengers had sent a distress call to shipping vessels travelling between Manus and Madang to keep an eye out for the missing boats.

PPC Yapu said the last contact made by people on the missing boats was near Karkar in Madang.
