Paraka Files Handover Deferred

A scheduled media conference this afternoon, called by Acting Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki to announce the handing over of the files into the Paraka PayMen’s investigation, was cancelled.

Media representatives who were present for the conference at Police Headquarters, were advised that as a result of the events of the past two weeks, the police force needed time to sort out in-house issues amongst the officers involved in the investigation.

EMTV understands that rather than having investigators hand over the case files, there might be a consensus reached whereby Acting ACP Crimes, Donald Yamasombi, and other officers not involved with the initial investigation, will be working with case officers to ensure the integrity of all the aspects of the case.

After an hour’s wait, the media and other members of the Police hierarchy were informed that the conference was called off.

The conference was called for the media to witness the handing over of the Paraka files by the Anti-Corruption and Fraud office to Police Commissioner Geoffrey Vaki.

The commissioner is currently in close consultation with his management team at the police headquarters.

Meantime, Acting Deputy Police Commissioner and Chief of Operations Jim Andrews said all members of the constabulary will serve the office of the commissioner and the government with loyalty and dedication regardless of the growing media sentiMen’s brought on by the Paraka saga.

ACP Andrews also issued a stern warning to all members of the constabulary down the rank and file not to be side tracked or influenced by people with political agendas.

He said to avoid termination, each officer must use his or her intellectual judgement and analyse these issues carefully and avoid unwarranted disruptions detrimental to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
