Palais Trial

By Jeremy Mogi – EM TV, Port Morebsy

In the search to find and create a wider player base, the PNG Palais will head into trials tomorrow, to finalise and select a team.

Women from a number of different rugby clubs and schools took to the field, with the hope of securing a spot on the team to represent the country.

Rugby has been a steadily growing sport in the country, and with the upcoming 2015 HSBC Hong Kong 7’s tournament, the 2015 Pacific Games, and the Olympic Qualifiers, the PNG rugby football Union is trialling 84 women under the watchful eyes of PNG Palais coach, Elenoa Kunatuba and development manager Sailosi Druma.

Women  from Vikings, Spartans, Southern Chiefs, Harlequins and Port Moresby International School were all trialled.

Of the group of players that were trialled, only 45 will be chosen, with that number to be cut down even further prior to departure. While questions remain on the timing of the trials, given the short time span to prepare, there is confidence in the quality and talent shown.
