Jubilee Welcomes New Basketball Court

With basketball being one of the fastest growing sport in the country, Jubilee catholic secondary school in the nation’s capital welcomed their brand new basketball court, in a short ceremony.

The court was part of BSP’s community development program. Conducting sport and PE classes has always been a struggle for a school that prides itself on its academic success Although, with successin a number of other sporting codes such as soccer and softball, the school now believes it can excel in basketball as well.

Student leaders, Charles Thomas and Rofia Ponjegi expressed their excitement at receiving the new facilities. Charles, speaking about the successsaid the school has had various other Sport. Rofia on the other hand spoke about the participation of more girls in the codes.

Former student Ezra Ipoya was also enthusiastic on the schools sporting chances in the future, saying that the school could now also focus on producing better Sportpersons in the future.

School principal, Bernadette Ove, was also optimistic, speaking of further developments that the school is hoping to undertake. These includes a new football park and a recreational gym.

It has been fourteen years since the school was opened and while there have been struggles in funding new classrooms and teacher’s houses, the new basketball facility also brings with it an opportunity for further improvement to a school that has been performing academically and sporting-wise at higher echelon of Port Moresby schools.
