Pacific in Union Program Gaining Momentum

The 8 nominated schools in Rabaul, East New Britain, are into their second week of the Pacific in Union Program.

PiU Regional Development Officer, Tony Namur, has been assisting teachers at the nominated schools to ensure the progress of the program.

He has also seen an increase in the participation of girls, equalling the participation of boys, if not greater.

The schools are looking forward to a Rugby Festival to be staged at the end of the 6-week program.

Goroka Grammar, East Goroka Primary, West Goroka Primary and Gama Community School are proud recipients of football equipment and teaching materials that have been presented to them by PNGRFU.

The 4 schools will be participating in the roll out of the PiU program in Goroka.

Both Teachers and Coaches are enthusiastic about conducting the program.

They said the program gives the opportunity for teachers to take control of how to conduct the program, since it is incorporated into a syllabus.

The program has been successful in Port Moresby and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and now Rabaul.

Schools in the respective centres have reported an increase in student enrolment and participation, and Goroka as a province that has been dominated by other sports, hopes that the PiU program will have the same impact.
