Kavieng MP who is also the Public State and Investments Minister, Ben Micah, says the provincial economic sector can be made stronger, through successful partnership arrangements with the government’s funding support.
Mr. Micah highlighted this in his official speech at the launching of a new fish processing plant in Kavieng, operated by Golden Snapper Limited.
Golden Snapper Limited is a privately owned company in New Ireland Province that has just opened its business doors.
The company has partnered with the Fisheries Co-operative to deliver services for sustainable development.
Mr. Micah said the project is worthwhile, with many benefits and opportunities, to build the fishing industry.
Micah also announced that the NCS has secured a contract for Golden Sapper to supply one tonne of fish fillets weekly.
The New Ireland Provincial Government is supporting this project, as it will help to create benefits to the province and generate internal revenue.
Golden Snapper Limited Managing Director, Carlos Laupu, said the business aims to sustain local fishermen and co-operatives.
Marine products, starting with fish fillets will be supplied to buyers, particularly catering companies and hotels.
Inspection of the fish fillets will be conducted by NCS, before the first shipment.
