Hela Wigman and Mendi Muruks played out the first Heli-solution shield challenge in Mendi town on the weekend.

Mendi town witnessed the start of the first Heli-solution shield that will continue for the next ten years. It was a competition between Southern Highlands Digicel Cup teams- Hela Wigmens and the Mendi Muruks.
Heli-Solutions CEO, Phil Emeck, sees the initiative as part of giving back to community building. He is a partner in the company hailing from the area that the company provides Helicopter services with three fleets. “We grew up here so the honors is on businessman and leaders to give back to the game,” he says.
The first official kick off was by Komo-magarima MP, Francis Potape, who was in Mendi to launch the event. The competition aims to bring together youths in the Southern Highlands and develop Rugby League in the Province.
Mendi Muruks won the first ever competition and received twenty thousand kina. The Hela Wigmen received the consolation price of five thousand kina.
Its understood that as the competition progresses throughout the next ten years, the price money will increase.
