Kairuku Hiri To Receive K14 Million

Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill has vowed to deliver K14 million as promised, to the people of Kairuku Hiri under the 2012 Umbrella Benefits Sharing Agreement.

Mr. O’Neill said the infrastructure development grants for 2012, 2013 and 2014 are available.

The Prime Minister assured local MP Peter Isoaimo, that these funds will be released once infrastructure project proposals are furnished to the National Executive Council, and concerned authorities.

Kairuku Hiri district was one of the districts that took part in the 2012 Umbrella Benefit Sharing Agreement of the PNG LNG project.

Mr. Isoaimo was concerned about his district’s share that the national government had promised then. Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill responded swiftly, saying the commitment of K14 million was still available.

He said the funds have not been released due to administrative problems following his win in the by election this year, projects have yet to be rolled out.

The district, in general, has fallen behind in terms of service delivery. The first term MP is adamant he will roll out some services during his 3 year term.
