Marinumbo Health Post Soon Have Health Centre

Marinumbo Health Post in the Yangoru District of East Sepik Province will soon have a new Health Centre.

Through the District Support Services Improvement Fund, K150, 000 has been allocated for a completely new building to be constructed.

This will benefit over 10, 000 people, living along the Sepik Highway, who visit the health center for medical attention.

This is Marinumbo Health Post that serves five villages.

With only two medical officers and one officer in charge, they are pressured to serve the 10,000 people in the area.

OIC John Lowingu says most seriously ill patients are sent home after treatment, because there is no room for the patients to rest after seeking medical attention. As a result, some die along the way home.

Mr. Lowingu said there is not enough space to store medical goods and drugs.

As a result he only orders limited amount to get by.

On top of these problems, there is no ambulance to transport the critically ill patients to the Provincial Hospital in Wewak. The only ones available are located two – three kilometres further away from Marinumbo Health Post.

Through the District Support Improvement Program, Funds worth K150, 000, will see a new building constructed for the Health Post that will also see its status being upgraded to a Health Centre.

Minister for Commerce, Trade & Industry and Member for Yangoru – Saussia, Richard Maru said the District is currently in its final stages of negotiating a package for a District Doctor.

Last year, the District released K50, 000 that saw the completion of a staff house with plans to see similar developments at the Health Centre.
