Madang Traffic Deaths Increase

Madang Province is experiencing an increase in traffic accident fatalities due to an increase in the number of vehicles as more people moving into town as a result of increase in economic activities in the province.

This was revealed by Acting OIC Traffic in Madang, Senior Constable Frank Makora during an awareness session with employees of Ramu NiCo Management (MCC) Ltd, and stakeholders.

Senior Constable Makora revealed that in 2013 statistics from the Madang traffic office indicated that cases reported include, 23 seriously injury cases and 87 minor injury cases.

He explained Madang town is seeing an increase in the number of people and vehicles and traffic congestion is currently being experienced during peak hours during working days.

During the road traffic safety session on dos and don’ts of traffic rules and regulations, concerning what drivers, passengers and the pedestrians must do to avoid accidents were carried out.

Constable Makora advised drivers and vehicle owners to bring the matter of the bad state of roads to the provincial government as a matter of concern.
