In less than sixteen days, the sixth BSP PNG Games will be held in Lae and it is already bringing millions of kina into the province.
The PNG Games is scheduled to begin in two weeks and final preparations are being made in the main sporting arenas, some of which are still being made.
It’s understood that the construction and improvements to the venues started late, due to delays in the release of funds.
But major contractors tasked to fix old venues and reconstruct new ones are adamant that the work will be completed on time before the opening ceremony.
The Games has also brought moneymaking opportunities for communities around Lae City.
Limi Jasa from potsi has supplied timber from their land and bought by contractors to build the stalls.
“They order timber from us, we cut them from our jungles,” he said.
There is a supply chain of stall materials that include blind weavers along the Nadzab Highway.
