Kokoda Initiative Program Administration Must Be Transferred to Kokoda Track Authority

The President of Koiari LLGC, David Ogi, said the Kokoda Track Initiative program should be transferred to Kokoda Track Authority after KTA’s review.

“We need to be serious about our future,” said Ogi.

He made this call stating that the Program for years have been done without proper consultation with the local authorities thus, services provided by the program are rarely accessed by many communities along the Kokoda Trek Corridor.

Ogi said in the last nine years, a total of K21Million has been lost, thus the Kokoda Initiative administration must be transferred to KTA, because funding for the initiative by the PNG and Australian Governments in the recent past have not been felt on the ground.

Deputy President and Kage Ward 16 councillor, Josh John, said the Kokoda initiative has failed to provide tangible economic programs for Kokoda Corridor communities to sustain themselves.

The Kokoda Initiative Program has been running since 2009, but it has not been run in consultation with local authorities.
