Japan Set To Become PNG’s Top Trading Partner

FOREIGN Affairs Minister Rimbink Pato, says Japan will be Papua New Guinea’s next top trading partner, when the PNG LNG gas is exported.

Minister Pato said Australia has been PNG’s top partner, to date, however; this will change because Japan will be buying 60 percent of PNG’s gas.

He said this partnership will last for the whole life span of the project.

Minister Pato was speaking at a recent gathering in Mt. Hagen, during the launch of the Plant and Transport Branch for the Department of Works: Highlands Region.

Minister Pato said he will accompany Prime Minister Peter O’Neill to Japan later this year, when the first shipment of LNG gas is exported.

He said this trade agreement will further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.

Minister Pato said Japan is one of PNG’s important donor partners providing aid assistance to Papua New Guinea.
