Ipatas cup set for 2015

The Coca Cola Ipatas cup rugby league competition is all set to kick off in January 2015.

Ipatas Cup CEO, Timothy Lepa said that 64 teams will take part in the off-season competition, with Kimbe to host the NGI challenge.

The Ipatas cup will commence on January 3rd with the northern challenge at the Lae rugby league ground.

Eastern Highlands, Chimbu, Western Highlands and Jiwaka will follow suit on January 16th and the Southern Highlands, Enga and Hela challenge will be from the 24th to 25th of January, 2015.

NCD, Central and the Kimbe challenge will kick off in February.

CEO, Timothy Lepa announced this during the presentation of the 2014 Ipatas Cup report to major sponsor, Coca Cola Amatil yesterday afternoon.

Coca Cola Amatil has again increased its sponsorship to K95, 000 for the 2015 Ipatas cup.

The Ipatas cup, in the last 16 years has been able to identify rugby talents from the most remote parts in the country.

The concept itself has given exposure to many raw talents, who have excelled to play in the Digicel cup.

A total of 64 teams have confirmed participation, including teams from as far as the remote Enga and Chimbu from the Highlands region, and Talasea, Kandrian and Hoskins in West New Britain.

The finals will be played in Lae and the grandfinal will be at Aipus rugby League ground in Wabag, Enga Province.
