Since the United Nations General Assembly declared International Day of Forests in November 2012, PNG Forest Authority (PNGFA) has made March 21 a day to remember since 2014.
This morning, directors, management and staff of PNG Forest Authority gathered to commemorate the International Day of Forests.
The management and employees celebrated the International Day of Forests. This day raises awareness about the importance of all types of forests.
In celebrating the day, the management and employees also began preparations for a revamp of their headquarters, which has been around since the 1970s.
Acting Managing Director, Karokaro Mau, informed everyone that in celebration, they would also begin preparations for the re-designing of the PNGFA headquarters entire boundary.
Minister for Forestry, Douglas Tomuriesa, said that the forestry sector makes 1.4 billion kina for the country’s economy every year.
Manager for Tree Plantations, Francis Vilamur, told EMTV News that PNGFA is taking a new approach with the operation ‘Painim Graun, Planim Diwai’, to achieve the 2050 goals set by the national government.
