IDG For Southern Highlands Improvement

The Southern Highlands Provincial Government will use the PNG LNG Infrastructure Development Grant to improve its high-impact projects.

Governor William Powi said the provincial government is now serious in improving infrastructure and service delivery.

Southern Highlands is one of resource rich provinces of Papua New Guinea with high volumes of oil and gas resources.

These projects, a joint venture with the National Government, Kutubu Oil and now the PNG LNG, contributed in sustaining the country’s economic growth.

The Infrastructure Development Grant will be spent to implement high impact projects like roads that will link and increase economic activities in the province.

Since law and order is a critical issue in the highlands region, the provincial government has taken a bold stand to assist police to minimize crime.

On this note, IDG funds for the two years will be used to build the new police barracks.

Governor Powi said the first gas shipment was history and a milestone for PNG.  He thanked the current government for taking lead in such initiatives.
