The PNG U19 Garamuts have lost all three matches against India, Australia and West Indies, in their pool B matches but are now in the plate finals.
While competition leaders like Pakistan, Australia, India and West Indies advance to play for the number one spot, PNG settled for the plate playoff, in which they have already faced Canada and lost by 80 runs.
Canada is now set for the plate semifinal.
Nevertheless, PNG has one more chance to make it to the plate grand final, given that they redeem themselves in their next match against Ireland.
Like PNG, Ireland started out in a pool dominated by Cricket greats; Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
Critics deemed it the ‘Group of Death’.
Coming out sore from losing all of their pool matches as well, Ireland now looks to take out PNG in what would be an equal playing ground this time.
PNG for now remains optimistic they await the deciding match due in a few hours.
