Buying of Vanilla Beans to be Stopped in Maprik

The buying of green vanilla beans in Maprik will be stopped.

Maprik MP John Simon said if this continues the value of producing the best will lessen.

MP Simon says road blocks will be established in Maprik to stop those transporting, selling and buying green vanilla beans.

According to vanilla experts, green beans can severely affect the crops best value because of how it’s processed.

The Maprik MP said there are many other negative effects like stealing, which mostly results in fights and deaths. With the vanilla boom at hand, MP John Simon says buying of green beans is also becoming common.

This is a growing industry in Maprik, Wosera Gawi, Ambunti Drekikia and Yangoru Saussia.

With Maprik being the hub of Central Sepik, MP Simon said road blocks will be set up to stop the trade of green vanilla beans.

Licensed buyers were also warned and help the District carry out the ban and maintain the high quality of the crop.
