Evicted tenants issue Restraining Order

By Jack Lapauve Jr, EMTV – Port Moresby

After sleeping outside their homes for almost four nights, the two evicted tenants of Lapwing Drive in Port Moresby’s Gordons suburb will now occupy their homes.

Former public servants Lucy Agen and Cecelia Awi served restraining orders to Police and other parties earlier today.

Both tenants are also calling for a separate investigation into the damage done by Police, and how the property title was transferred to an Asian businessman.

Their legal counsel said the restraining order allows the two tenants to occupy the property until the matter returns to court next month.

Lucy and Cecelia, along with their families, were evicted over the weekend by police.  They claim the title of the property was transferred illegally despite a National Court Order was in place.

Yesterda, police forcefully removed their properties. They said police must now return their belongings and compensate the damages done.

The two tenants say they will wait for police to respond to the restraining order, and for Police to cut the locks open so they can occupy their homes.

The matter will return to the Courts on the 3rd of January 2018.
