Eda Ranu Not Consulted

Eda Ranu Managing Director, Henry Mokono, says the National Capital District Commission must engage with Eda Ranu before undertaking major constructions.

This is in relation to the partial road closure of the main road in the town CBD area in Port Moresby caused by damages to Eda Ranu’s water pipes.

Mr Mokono said it will cost Eda Ranu about half a million Kina to seal the road after the pipeline repairs.

Mokono and other members of the Eda Ranu management team visited Champion Parade, in the heart of the Port Moresby CBD area. They were there to get a first hand update on the work being done on the pipes that were damaged from the new road.

Mr Mokono said Eda Ranu is in consultation with NCDC to ensure they are involved from the design phase to the construction phase of any major physical development.

However, the Eda Ranu Managin Director highlighted that their biggest problem is the NCDC Act. He added that the Act does not allow utility companies to be on the Physical Planning Board.

In the meantime, the areas along Champion Parade; Pacific Place, Era Rumana, Steamships Plaza and Burns House will be experiencing low water pressure or no water supply this week, due to the maintenance work on the Champion Parade water mains.

Water carts will supply water to affected areas where necessary while traffic access through Champion Parade will be partially closed and Hunter Street will have one-way traffic only.

Eda Ranu advised the Public that road access to Champion Parade will also be closed on Saturday 17th June and Saturday 24th June for re-sealing works by Global Construction Limited.
