CS To Improve Health Care Services

Prison inmates in all Correctional Institutions in Papua New Guinea will now benefit from improved health care services.

This comes after a Memorandum of Agreement was signed by PNG Correctional Services, and the National Department of Health today in Port Moresby.

The signing is part of the National Health Plan, to partner with state and central agencies, to provide accessible basic health care services. Health services will extend to Correction Service officers, their families and the surrounding communities of prison camps.

Acting Commissioner Waipo, said the purpose of the MOA is to deliver a service with standards of the health department, to ensure improved welfare for all inmates. This service is a milestone achievement for the Correction Service and Health Department, added Mr Waipo.

Health Secretary Pascoe Kase, said the MOA underlines the use of standard facilities, training and supply of sufficient medical drugs to all CS camps in the country.

The signing is the establishment of the first phase, while phase 2 will see similar MOA’s with Provincial Governments, CEO’s of Hospitals, prison commanders and Provincial Health Authorities.
