After the Regional Championship that was staged in Kavieng, Lae, Bialla in West New Britain Province, and Port Moresby late last year, a 25 member team has been selected for the PNG U-16 Binatangs.
The team will compete in this year’s South Pacific Cup, to be held at Coff’s Harbour, New South Wales, Australia, from April 11 to 16.
As Reigning Champions of the South Pacific Cup, the U-16 Binatangs have been hard at training in their respective provinces, Kimbe, Lae and Port Moresby.
Most team members have flown in from their respective provinces throughout the month, and Manager Willie Yogomin is confident, the Binatangs will retain the cup this year.
The team comprises of fresh faces, and Senior AFL PNG Senior Football Manager, Rex Leka, alongside the Travelling coaching Staff, is assured that the experience from second timers, Kataha Siwee, Lawrence Kavanamur, Peter Lavong and John Susuve, will give the boys an upperhand, come this Friday.
Despite the lack of size in the team, the boys have great athleticism and speed that they have capitalised on, and will maintain to retain the Cup.
The U-16 Binatangs will be accompanied by Coach Ben Drew, Team Manager, Willie Yogomin and Team Runner, Mesea Dorogori, and will depart for Coff’s Harbour tomorrow.
