BBC 100 Women Season

Since 2013, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has tried to address the under-representation of women in media by devoting three weeks a year to having female content aired through television, online reports, debates and journalism based on women.

Every year BBC selects 100 influential and inspirational women from across the globe who have had extraordinary experiences or have achieved the extraordinary.

Women from different walks of life, occupation, ethnicity, age, class, etc, are featured by BBC in an effort to highlight the work they do and how they are advancing causes directed at changing gender parities in today’s society.

These stories address various issues that women throughout the world may face or those in selected fields may have to deal with daily.

Essentially, it is the experiences of these women that provide ways in which such issues can be addressed or how women can band together to help further the fight against gender inequality.

These issues may include gender-based violence, the gender pay gap, maternal health, child brides, or basic voting rights, whatever the case may be, BBC’s international news platform provides an avenue for these female voices to be heard across the globe.
